Investing in sustainable shipping

JR Shipping actively invests in making shipping more sustainable. Within our expertise, short sea shipping , we undertake and support initiatives aimed at reducing the emission of harmful substances and the necessary transition to renewable fuel. We have laid down ambitions and goals in a verifiable ESG policy. We worked hard on this throughout the organisation in 2022. In 2023, we published our first Sustainability report.

ESG – Strategy and Priorities

At the moment, our shipping group is not yet obliged to report annually on ESG policy. However, we realise the importance of taking an active role in the formulation and design of policies in which we commit ourselves to goals related to ESG – Environment, Social and Governance. Although the report does not yet meet future auditing standards, it is a start. More information on the strategy and priorities can be found at www.jrshipping.com.

Business transparency

Verifiable ESG policy meets the needs of both society and the business community, as well as the stakeholders of companies, for more openness and certainty about urgent themes such as climate change, sustainability, being an employer, social coherence, and decent governance. Investors and financing partners in particular want to know where they stand when they do business with parties. With our first Sustainability report, we offer transparency and share our ambitions.

Goals and actions

Given the industry in which we operate, international shipping, our ESG policy focuses on measures that help keep the world habitable and ensure that we halt the deterioration of ecosystems, biodiversity, and marine life. We are committed to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and take concrete action.

For example, we quickly took measures to make our existing fleet more sustainable. The installation of innovative filter systems with options for capturing and storing CO2 resulted in a significant reduction of our ecological footprint. We also invest time and expertise in the new generation of container feeder vessels: our ECO Flex and Baltic Max Feeders. These next generation feeders are ready for the transition to renewable fuel. Together with various market and financing parties, we are focusing on the further development of these vessels.

Investing together in a green future

With the modern, fuel-efficient 24 PAX Crew Transport Vessels from SeaZip Offshore Service, we actively and concretely contribute to the social challenge of producing more green electricity. A successful fleet expansion with SeaZip 9 took place in early 2023. There is great interest in SeaZip’s ships and services within the offshore energy industry, which invests in electricity from the sea with ambitious wind turbine projects.

In our Sustainability report, a large number of urgent themes are identified and elaborated. It also describes the steps that must be taken to realise ambitions and achieve goals. This also applies to the domains ‘Social’ and ‘Governance’. We have formulated clear starting points for both. An open and honest relationship with our stakeholders, including our investors and bondholders, is a common thread throughout.

Our mission is: Excellence in Sustainable Short Sea Shipping . We are convinced that the necessary sustainability of shipping is achievable if we join forces to jointly invest in a green future. How? Our first ESG report provides initial guidance.
